East Midland Champions!
It was a clean sweep of the Recurve trophies for Kirby at the East Midlands Championships. Shooting on the WA18 three spot Ben Trudgill, Mark Bennet and Lizzie Warner were comfortable winners of the team trophy while Ben won the men’s competition and Lizzie the women’s with a new club, County and East Midland record of 578. We’ve won the outdoor title before but it’s the first time we’ve won the indoor.
Ben and Lizzie were also successful at the National Indoor Championships at Stoneleigh. Both made it through the qualification round to the knock-out stage and then on to the ¼ finals, Ben beating the number 2 seed in his first round match. He lost to the eventual winner but Lizzie won to set up a semi-final against the top seed Sarah Bettles, who had won a bronze medal at the World Series event in Luxembourg recently. Lizzie shot three perfect ends of 30 out of 4 to win the match. She lost in the final however, to the GB number one after tying the first two ends. It was another great performance from Lizzie to win her 3rd medal at these championships in the last three years; she was 3rd last year and won it two years ago.
More success for Lizzie at The Foxes Worcester where she won the Women’s Recurve with a national record, scoring 298 out of the possible 300. There were also good performances from Steve Nash and Andy Powell.
